Migraine link to heart defect

A special migraine seminar is being held in the Royal Dublin Hotel On Sunday May 21.

Organised by the Migraine Association of Ireland, it will be addressed by expert speakers in the area of migraine.

Dr Andy Dowson from Kings Hospital in London will speak on research he has carried out which has indicated that there may be a link between migraine and a congenital heart defect present in 25% of the population, called a PFO.

Dr Dowson will explain whether closing the hole’ can help migraine and what implications the research will have for future migraine treatments.

Dublin consultant neurologist Dr Colin Doherty will speak about the wide range of acute and preventive treatments that now exist for migraine, and John O'Donoghue, from the Lifehandle group, will give a practical guide to stress management.
