Women, men cope differently with pain

A new study has confirmed the long-held belief that men and women suffer from and cope with pain and illness in different ways.

The study found that in all cases, women are more likely than men to suffer from pain or illnesses.

It was found that sixty-one per cent of women suffer form headaches compared to just 38% of men; 70% get colds compared to 59% of men and 21% experience backache compared to 12% of men.

When asked how they would rate their response mechanisms to illness, men were more likely to regard themselves at 'battlers' (56% compared to 48% of women).

Women were more likely to regard themselves as 'fussers', who will try anything and everything to relieve symptoms.

It was found that women who suiffer from a headache are also more likely to take a painkiller compared to men.

The research was carried out by Neurofen.
